The result is a conveniently placed airport, which now covers some 130 acres / 50 hectares, complete with a long runway measuring 2,900 metres / 9,515 feet. Today, the city's airport is officially known as Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport (GOA), being named after its very famous historical resident Christopher Columbus, who was born here in 1451.

Genoa Airport has recently invested well over €40 million to improve the runway, apron and both cargo and passenger buildings, and to create a new satellite area for commuters. Passenger facilities are good and spread over both the first and second floors of the single-terminal facility.
